I am an architectural drafter, and I became unemployed at the beginning of the winter at age 43. It is kinda difficult to get a good job in the construction industry when everything slows down for winter.
The other factor was my age – everybody wants to hire people younger than me so they could take advantage of less experienced employee and pay less – a lot less. So, I had to take action, and I knew it was possible because when I finished college, I started selling cars. At that time, it was a little adventure because I was buying cars in Germany and selling them to Russia, which involved a lot of travel. And it was not a bad business – I was earning on average $400 on one car sold. After some time, I was selling about 10–12 cars a week. That was not bad for an entrepreneur who started his business with $400. But it was also the maximum number of cars I could handle during a one-week period.
I knew that I did not have too many options:
- Accept a job in my trade for much-discounted pay.
- Start my own business.
- Look for alternative income sources like Passive Income.
I didn’t like the idea of working my ass off for a discounted salary. I knew I would be angry every day. So I discarded this option immediately.
I knew I needed to start my own business where I could control who I am going to hire and who I need to let go. So I started my little drafting services. But as a parallel income source, I have chosen blogging because I saw potential, and it seemed relatively passive. Do the work once and make a profit for years. That is how I started blogging. You can check how am I doing by checking my monthly income reports.
